Two arrested over copper cargo robbery in São Bernardo do Campo

São Paulo military police said a truck driver flashed his headlights for help during a patrol. One suspect was holding him in the cab, while another allegedly tried to flee by car and crashed.

Military police in São Paulo arrested two men suspected of stealing a copper shipment worth 1.5 million reais in São Bernardo do Campo, in the Greater São Paulo area. The incident took place on Monday, October 5.

Police said officers on patrol noticed the truck driver flashing his headlights to signal for help. When they intervened, they found he was being held inside the truck by one of the suspects. Officers also saw another vehicle following the truck and allegedly taking part in the robbery.

The second car tried to escape but collided with another vehicle. The woman driving that vehicle injured her shoulder and was taken to Santa Helena Hospital. The suspected driver was arrested at the scene. The man inside the truck tried to flee on foot but was also detained. The truck driver was released unharmed.

Police said they found a signal jammer inside the vehicle and a 38-calibre revolver on one of the men. The case was registered at the Second Police District of São Bernardo do Campo.
