UK police arrest seventh suspect in RAF Fairford investigation

A 22-year-old British man was detained in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts; police say the inquiry remains active.

British counter-terrorism police said they arrested a 22-year-old man in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. Investigators suspect a connection to an incident near RAF Fairford, a military airbase in western England used by U.S. aircraft. The Westminster arrest was the seventh in the investigation, and the man remains in custody.

Six men arrested earlier have been released on bail while the investigation continues. They include a British-Iranian dual national arrested on October 1. Police say officers are pursuing several lines of inquiry. Reuters and the Associated Press also reported the latest arrest.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham previously said there were “strong indications” Iran may have played a part, but authorities have not said what the suspects were allegedly planning. Iran has denied involvement. Those statements are allegations, not a finding by investigators.
