Pacific nations open preparatory talks ahead of COP31

Meetings in Nadi and Tuvalu from October 5 to 8 will put the experience of Pacific countries on the frontline of climate change before the UN’s annual climate conference.

UN climate talks ahead of COP31 opened in Nadi, Fiji, on Monday. Pacific representatives are seeking to draw attention to communities living on the frontline of climate change, Fiji Climate Minister Lynda Tabuya said at the opening.

The official Pre-COP31 programme runs from October 5 to 8 and includes a leaders’ event in Tuvalu. Fiji, Tuvalu and Australia are jointly hosting the meetings, according to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The preparatory talks precede COP31, scheduled for Antalya from November 9 to 20. The Pacific meetings give leaders from the region an opportunity to present their perspectives before the global conference.
