
The Dow Jones rose 0.49%, the S&P 500 gained 0.58% and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.45%. Technology and chip stocks benefited from lower Treasury yields.
Major US stock indexes ended Tuesday, October 6, higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 253 points, or 0.49%, to close at 51,521. The S&P 500 rose 0.58% to 7,818, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.45% to 27,599. Argaam’s daily report said the S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished at record levels.
Technology and semiconductor shares, along with lower US Treasury yields, supported the market. Investors temporarily set aside inflation concerns linked to higher energy prices and awaited the Federal Reserve meeting minutes for clues about the path of interest rates.
Other markets also advanced: the Stoxx Europe 600 rose 0.48%, the FTSE 100 gained 0.42%, the DAX added 0.77% and the CAC 40 rose 0.40%. In Asia, the Nikkei 225 gained 1% and the Topix rose 0.92%. December Brent futures advanced 0.26% to $100.58 a barrel, while November WTI futures settled around $89.44. December gold futures gained 0.73% to $4,187.10 an ounce.
