Vance says Iran must curb uranium enrichment for a deal

The US vice president told Reuters Washington expects concrete steps on Iran’s nuclear programme; the Middle East conflict remains unresolved.

US Vice President JD Vance said any agreement with Iran would require Tehran to reduce its uranium-enrichment capabilities. Reuters reported his remarks, and RIA Novosti published excerpts from the interview on October 7.

Vance said Washington was open to a deal but expected concrete concessions on the nuclear issue. He argued that Iran should take tangible steps to demonstrate it was prepared to abandon the pursuit of nuclear weapons.

RIA Novosti noted that the United States and Israel began strikes on targets in Iran on February 28, after which Tehran responded with strikes of its own. In June, the sides signed a memorandum on ending hostilities, but exchanged strikes again later. The conflict remained unresolved at the time of publication.
