Weidel says Merz’s policies are making Germany a target for Russia

At a news conference on Oct. 7, Alternative for Germany co-leader Alice Weidel criticized the chancellor’s security policy, RIA Novosti reported.

Alternative for Germany co-leader Alice Weidel said Chancellor Friedrich Merz was turning Germany into a target for Russia. “This must stop immediately,” she said at a news conference on Oct. 7, RIA Novosti reported.

The agency also relayed Weidel’s sarcastic remark that Merz was “the best chancellor Germany has ever had.” RIA linked her criticism to the government’s economic policy and plans to increase military spending; claims about the consequences of that course are those of the chancellor’s political opponent.

The Associated Press reported that Germany announced new aid for Ukraine, including military assistance, during Merz’s visit to Kyiv on Oct. 4. Weidel criticized that policy from her party’s perspective.
