A 29-year-old daily-wage worker, K. Siva, died after accidentally touching an electric fence around a sugarcane field near Varusanadu in Tamil Nadu.
Police said Siva, from Ponnagar village in Andipatti, had gone to work at the field along the Thangammalpuram–Varusanadu road. He accidentally came into contact with the fence and was electrocuted. His body was taken to Theni Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
After the incident, Siva’s family members staged a road blockade at Kadamalaikundu. The fence was reportedly installed to keep wild animals away from the field. His family alleged that it had been put up illegally.
The protesters dispersed after authorities promised to inspect the matter and take appropriate action. The legality of the fence had not been established at the time of publication.
