Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s internationally recognised Presidential Leadership Council, has announced an operation aimed at taking Sanaa from the Houthis.
Al-Alimi called the campaign “Dawn of Yemen” in remarks carried by the Yemeni broadcaster South24, according to RIA Novosti.
He said forces aligned with the internationally recognised government had begun the operation to retake the capital. The account describes the launch of the campaign but gives no details about troop movements or its outcome.
The announcement establishes the government’s stated intention and claimed start of the operation. The situation on the ground in Sanaa and any battlefield gains have yet to be independently verified.
