Two people drowned in separate incidents on the Krishna River in India’s Krishna district on Sunday, Oct. 4. The bodies of 70-year-old Munipalli Balaswamy and 25-year-old Tirumalasetti Gopiraju were recovered on Monday by experienced swimmers and local fishermen.
Balaswamy, a resident of Patayadlalanka village, was tending cattle near Madhyalanka when he was swept into the river. In the second incident, Gopiraju went fishing in a small boat with his parents, T. Pothuraju and Naga Lakshmi. The boat capsized, putting all three in the water. His parents swam safely to shore, but Gopiraju was carried away by the current.
Mines and Geology Minister Kollu Ravindra visited Gopiraju’s family in Kottapalli Tummalapalem village. In a post on X, he said the government would support them. He urged fishers to take necessary precautions before going out and asked officials to remind them to remain alert.
