After performing an exhibition in Mexico, the skater can use early appearances to gain experience. Svetlana Zhurova linked an earlier return to form with the need to secure qualification places.
Svetlana Zhurova said Kamila Valieva’s exhibition performances early in the season could help the figure skater gain experience. The Olympic speed-skating champion and State Duma deputy told Sovetsky Sport that competing now can be useful, including for gaining international experience.
Valieva recently performed an exhibition number at an ice show in Mexico, where Mark Kondratiuk also skated. Zhurova said skaters would not usually be expected to reach form in October, but the need to secure qualification places may bring the preparation timetable forward.
Zhurova said she believes Valieva’s preparation and recent appearances are proceeding according to plan and that the skater still has opportunities ahead.
