13 candidates remain in Karnataka North-East teachers’ constituency race

Polling for a seat in the state Legislative Council is set for October 23. The constituency has 34,784 registered voters.
One nomination was withdrawn, leaving 13 candidates in the Karnataka Legislative Council election for the North-East Teachers’ Constituency. Regional Commissioner Zahira Naseem said polling would take place on October 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fourteen nominations had been accepted before the withdrawal.
The constituency has 34,784 registered voters: 20,040 men and 14,744 women. A total of 144 polling stations have been arranged, including one auxiliary station in Ballari. Webcasting is planned at all stations. Prohibitory orders will apply within 200 metres of polling and counting centres, and the sale and consumption of liquor will be banned.
Voters must mark their preferences with the violet-coloured pen supplied by the Election Commission. Preferences may be written in Kannada, English or Roman numerals, and there is no NOTA option. Counting is scheduled for October 27 and will use 14 tables at Bhaskar Hall on the Gulbarga University campus.
