The Financial Supervisory Service traced addresses in 12 countries in connection with attacks that exposed customer data at several banks.
South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service has identified 19 IP addresses believed to have been used in recent attacks on financial institutions, industry sources told Yonhap. The addresses were located in the United States, Japan and 10 other countries. Investigators suspect the attacks may have involved AI agents.
The breaches affected several banks, including Shinhan, Hana and KB Kookmin. Shinhan said personal data belonging to about 25,000 customers had been exposed, including names, phone numbers and annual income. Sources said the attackers used advanced AI tools.
Data belonging to 89 Hana Bank customers was also found to have leaked. Woori Bank and NH Nonghyup faced similar intrusion attempts but blocked unauthorized access, with no customer information reported leaked from those two banks.
President Lee Jae Myung called for a thorough investigation over the weekend. Financial companies are reviewing their systems amid concern about further attacks.
