Police arrested six people on the Monash Freeway after a pursuit across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. No one was injured, police said.
The pursuit followed a report of an aggravated burglary at a home on Clonaig Street in Brighton East shortly after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police said a resident woke to noises inside the house before the alleged offenders stole two cars and fled.
A Nissan 4WD was later seen being driven erratically on Eastlink. Officers tracked it through several eastern and south-eastern suburbs and intercepted it in Chadstone shortly after midday. The six occupants were arrested and interviewed, police said.
All outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway near Warrigal Road were closed around midday. Traffic was diverted onto Toorak and Burke roads, with drivers able to re-enter at Dandenong and Wellington roads.
Police said no one was injured. The second stolen car was recovered after a collision in Endeavour Hills.
