Adygea investigators probe fatal household gas explosion

One person was killed at a private home in Yablonovsky and an injured woman was hospitalized. Investigators have ordered forensic examinations.

A gas-air mixture exploded at a private home in the settlement of Yablonovsky, in Adygea’s Takhtamukaysky district. One man was killed and a woman was injured and taken to hospital, the regional Investigative Committee and emergency service said. Emergency responders reported that the blast caused the house’s structural elements to collapse.

The Investigative Directorate of Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Republic of Adygea opened a criminal case under the statute on causing death by negligence. Investigators inspected the scene and ordered explosive-technical and forensic medical examinations to help establish the circumstances.

The regional emergency service said it received a report of the explosion on October 9 and sent emergency crews to Yablonovsky. Rescuers found the dead person beneath the collapsed structures and took the injured woman to a medical facility. The Investigative Committee confirmed the death of a local resident and said the case was under investigation. Authorities have not yet announced what caused the explosion.
