Alexander Zverev advances to third round in Shanghai

Alexander Zverev defeated Wu Yibing in his opening match at the Shanghai Masters. The German won in straight sets, 6–4, 7–6.
The October 9 match lasted one hour and 35 minutes. The second set went to a tiebreak, which Zverev won 7–4, completing the match without needing a deciding set.
RIA Novosti listed Zverev as world number two and his Chinese opponent as number 113. The Shanghai tournament has a prize fund exceeding $9.4 million. Zverev will next face Quentin Halys, who beat Alexander Blockx.
In another match, American Ben Shelton defeated Germany's Daniel Altmaier 6–3, 7–6. Shelton won the second-set tiebreak 8–6. RIA Novosti listed Shelton and Altmaier at fourth and 67th in the rankings respectively.
