At closing arguments in the footballer’s death trial, prosecutors asked for a 12-year sentence for neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and terms of four to 10 years for other medical workers.
The prosecution and defense began their closing arguments on Thursday in the case over Diego Maradona’s death. Prosecutors also sought 10 years for Nancy Forlini, a coordinator at Swiss Medical, eight years for psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and five years for psychologist Carlos Díaz.
The prosecution requested four years each for nurses Ricardo Almirón and Mariano Perroni. These are sentencing requests, and the court has not issued a verdict.
Prosecutors allege the medical professionals responsible for Maradona’s care acted inadequately and negligently. They say he did not receive the treatment and supervision he needed, which may have contributed to his death.
RIA Novosti reported the requested terms, citing Argentine broadcaster TN. El País and Clarín also reported the prosecution’s sentencing requests.
