Trump calls people who reject ‘super intelligence’ ‘the enemy’

Donald Trump said on Truth Social that the White House considers anyone who says “artificial intelligence” instead of “super intelligence” an enemy. The U.S. president did not specify what consequences he believes should follow from using the existing term.

Trump first proposed renaming the technology during an address to the United Nations General Assembly last month. In late September, he signed an executive order directing federal agencies to use “super intelligence.” The order does not cover private companies, although Meta has adopted the wording. Elon Musk also uses it in posts on X.

The renaming comes amid debate over AI safety and the construction of data centers in the United States. Trump supports the technology’s development, while many in the industry warn about the risks of moving too quickly. The president has previously called such concerns a “hoax” and a “scam” and rejected calls to slow development or impose strict regulation.

Governments use terminology as part of public policy and messaging, but the established name remains familiar across the industry. Trump’s order applies to the federal government, not private companies. He has also sought to rename the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario as the Gulf of America and Lake America. Some neighboring countries objected, while Google reflected those names in the version of its maps shown in the United States.
