Armenian committee reports 14 detentions ahead of Stepanavan vote

Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee reported 14 detentions in Stepanavan following searches at homes and offices of Strong Armenia supporters.

The committee confirmed that searches and other procedural actions were being carried out as part of criminal proceedings, the newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak reported.

Lawmaker Arega Hovsepyan said those detained included Strong Armenia mayoral candidate Arsen Gevorgyan. She said all the detainees were linked to the party and described the authorities' actions as political pressure.

Lawmaker Andranik Gevorgyan also reported searches. Local elections in Stepanavan are scheduled for October 25.
