Ayuso’s Madrid PP names Alfonso Serrano campaign chief for Spain’s snap election

The regional party postponed its congress, originally planned for November 27–29, after Spain’s early general election was called for November 29.

The Madrid branch of Spain’s Popular Party (PP) has named its secretary-general, Alfonso Serrano, as regional campaign chief for the November 29 snap general election. The decision was taken at a regional board meeting on Monday chaired by Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The party had planned to hold its regional congress on November 27–29. It postponed the event until after Christmas after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called an early national election for November 29, putting the election campaign ahead of the party gathering.

The campaign committee will include Ana Millán, responsible for organisation and electoral affairs, Jesús Moreno for political action, and José Antonio Sánchez for municipal and regional coordination. Oliva García will coordinate Ayuso’s campaign, while Inmaculada Sanz will manage the campaign for Madrid mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

Serrano has extensive campaign experience. He led Ayuso’s 2023 regional election campaign, when the PP won an absolute majority. National PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo also attended the regional board meeting. The party said preparing for the general election would be its overriding priority in the coming weeks.
