Yevgeny Balitsky said mobile fire teams destroy most drones before they reach the Novorossiya highway. The governor said joint work by the army, road services and the Emergencies Ministry had stabilized the situation, though it was too early to speak of full stabilization. He made the remarks to TASS.
Balitsky called the highway a key logistics route for the region and said the authorities were taking steps to protect transport. He said the road connects the new regions with Crimea.
In June, the governor said mines had been dropped on the highway and urged residents to avoid nonessential travel. The Kremlin said the Defense Ministry was responsible for protecting infrastructure, including transport routes. In July, Balitsky told Vladimir Putin that the highway had been brought under control.
