Beatriz Haddad Maia underwent surgery on her left shoulder at Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo on October 6. CNN Brasil reports that the minimum recovery period is four months.
The tennis player, a former world No. 10, announced a break from competition in early August. In a social-media post, she said she would focus fully on her recovery so she can return to the court in the best possible form.
Haddad Maia previously told CNN Brasil that she had lived with a rotator-cuff injury for years but chose surgery because of the pain. She has already had surgery on her right shoulder; the latest procedure was performed by the same doctor.
