Braford show in Argentina’s Chaco names top female and male champions

The 3rd National Braford Spring Show in Chaco province selected the leading animals in the breed exhibition. Top honours went to a cow from Las Mercedes and a bull presented by three ranches.
Judging took place indoors at the Sociedad Rural del Chaco grounds in Margarita Belén despite poor weather. Organizers said the new pavilion allowed the event to proceed under cover and accommodated spectators. Judge Gustavo Alcalá said he assessed functionality and fertility, as well as the animals’ lower body lines and meat characteristics.
The top female title went to entry No. 24, a cow with a calf at foot from the Las Mercedes ranch owned by the Bravo family. The animal was born in October 2024 and is a daughter of Midas and Eleonora. Entry No. 30, presented jointly by San Carlos, La Matilde, El Bromista and El Gaucho, was runner-up. Third place went to female entry No. 29 from El Chañar in Corrientes province.
The male champion was bull No. 68, presented by Mirungá, El Chañar and Don Cancio. A son of Mago, it was born in August 2023. Its scrotal circumference measured 47.5 centimetres and its weight was close to one tonne. Bull No. 62, a son of Zupay from El Gaucho, took second place. Young bull No. 45 from Don Cancio was third.
Alcalá said his choices reflected moderate volume and traits associated with the current Argentine Braford type. Representatives of the Braford association, the Chaco provincial government, Expoagro, the Argentine Rural Society, CRA and INTA attended the event.
