Brazil’s ports and airports minister has included a proposed renegotiation of the Viracopos airport concession in the government’s 2027–2030 portfolio.
Minister Tomé Franca said a revision of the contract and the addition of regional airports could bring about 1.5 billion reais in investment. He presented the estimate at the Brasil Export event in Brasília. The Campinas airport concession began in 2012 with a 30-year term, and talks over its future have continued since the start of the decade.
The ministry also plans to continue its AmpliAR program, which brings regional airports into existing or new concession blocks. More than 70 airports are being studied for possible inclusion. The government’s plan includes the Brasília airport auction scheduled for December 17.
A ministry presentation also listed an additional 7.1 billion reais in credit through the National Civil Aviation Fund for airport and aviation infrastructure. Under the concession model, an operator may take on a high-traffic airport together with smaller regional terminals.
