
Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party met Cardinal Paulo Cezar Costa. His running mate, federal deputy Alfredo Gaspar, also attended.
The Archdiocese of Brasília said the meeting was held in a cordial, open atmosphere and provided an opportunity to discuss issues concerning the Catholic Church and Brazilian society.
The archdiocese listed religious and conscience freedom, the state’s secular character, protection of human life and the family, social justice, and efforts to combat poverty and inequality among the topics. Participants also discussed cooperation between public authorities and religious institutions for the common good.
During the visit, Bolsonaro received a statue of Nossa Senhora Aparecida, or Our Lady of Aparecida, Brazil’s patron saint. The meeting took place on Thursday, October 8.
