Brazilian lawmaker Nikolas Ferreira told CNN Brasil he would like to become president if he felt ready for the role. For now, he says, he needs to build a political base.
In an interview with the program Hora H published Oct. 7, Ferreira said he would not rush into a candidacy even if the opportunity arose. He said he was still young and needed to establish support for his political career. A direct answer about presidential ambitions, he added, could sound insincere or arrogant to voters.
Ferreira said winning an election would not by itself be enough to govern. A president would need media and legal support as well as a team, he said. He described winning office and governing effectively as different challenges.
The lawmaker did not give a timetable for a possible bid or say he had decided to run. He said he would consider the possibility if he believed he had the preparation and support needed.
