
A one-year-and-eight-month-old boy died after arriving at an emergency care unit in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, with severe acute respiratory failure. His relatives raised suspicions of possible physical abuse, which authorities have not confirmed.
The child died on the evening of October 6 at a UPA emergency unit in eastern Várzea Grande. According to the state Civil Police, his condition deteriorated into cardiorespiratory arrest. Medical staff attempted resuscitation but were unable to save him.
The police division for homicide and personal protection, known as DHPP, was called to handle the body’s release at Júlio Müller University Hospital. The body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) for forensic tests to determine the cause of death and check for signs of violence.
Relatives reported suspected physical abuse, but authorities have not confirmed that account. Police registered the case as a death requiring clarification and are continuing the investigation.
