Carpenter finds wallet lost for more than 50 years beneath a floor

A carpenter in Dartmouth, Canada, found a wallet beneath an old floor with a 1975 ticket to Hamlet and a one-dollar bill. Its owner, 68-year-old Richard Gilroy, learned of the discovery through a Facebook post and got it back.

Matty Goldsmith found the wallet while renovating a house. Inside were a driver’s licence, a student ID bearing Gilroy’s name, a ticket to a 1975 theater performance of Hamlet and a one-dollar bill.

The carpenter posted photographs of the documents in a local Facebook group in hopes of finding the owner. Gilroy’s wife, Donna, recognized them and replied that her husband remembered the house where he had lost the wallet and wanted it returned.

Goldsmith later met Gilroy in person and handed over the wallet, CBC reported. Gilroy, 68, said he was surprised and happy to have everything back.
