Chittoor police destroy fermented stock intended for illicit liquor

Police in India's Chittoor district destroyed approximately 5,000 litres of fermented jaggery wash on October 11. District police chief Tushar Dudi said the material was found during a search operation in the Ramakuppam area.

Teams searched Yanadi Colony and the Gudduru forest, examining areas suspected of hosting illegal brewing activity. The Hindu reported the operation, citing police officials.

Officers found drums containing a fermented mixture made with unrefined cane sugar. They destroyed the stock where it was stored. The reported volume refers to material intended for making arrack, rather than an equivalent quantity of finished liquor.

Inspector Mallesh Yadav led personnel from Rallabuduguru and Ramakuppam police stations. Dudi and additional superintendent Hemanth Boddu, based in Kuppam, supervised the operation.

Police also checked people listed in their records for previous criminal activity. Dudi warned that illegal liquor production and sales would bring criminal action and asked residents to report suspicious activity. He said further checks would take place across the district.
