Czechia to skip Eurovision 2027 amid spending cuts

The Czech broadcaster will not buy a licence to air the contest or send an entrant next year, citing financial pressure.

Czechia will not take part in Eurovision in 2027 and will not buy a licence to broadcast the contest. Broadcaster representatives said there would be no Czech flag on stage next season.

Czech media linked the decision to a lack of funds, and the broadcaster is planning substantial spending cuts. The European Broadcasting Union confirmed that Czech Television would be unable to participate because of financial pressure.

Czechia made its Eurovision debut in 2007; singer Daniel Žižka represented the country in 2026. Ireland has also withdrawn, but for a different reason: in protest against Israel being allowed to participate.
