Palaniswami calls for Tamil Nadu to drop costly power purchase agreement

AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami criticised electricity procurement prices and called for an agreement with private suppliers to be cancelled.
In an October 13 statement, the former Tamil Nadu chief minister accused the government led by Vijay of buying electricity at up to 37 rupees per unit. The prices and assessment are presented as the opposition politician's claims.
Palaniswami said neighbouring Andhra Pradesh's September 9 agreement provided for prices of 16–20 rupees. He cited 32–37 rupees for Tamil Nadu and alleged that the arrangements favoured private companies.
The Hindu and news agency PTI reported his criticism and demand to abandon the deal. The available accounts do not reproduce the contracts or a government response to the specific allegations.
The claimed prices concern government electricity procurement, rather than automatically establishing what residents pay. The opposition statement does not itself prove corruption or confirm cancellation of the agreement.
