Donald Trump announces Russian diesel supply agreement

After promising a major diesel announcement, Donald Trump said on October 9 that he had reached an agreement with Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply more than 300,000 tons to US and global markets.
Reuters reported that the announcement followed a conversation with the Russian president. It is a claim about agreed supplies, rather than confirmation that shipments have already arrived.
Earlier that day, Trump previewed further measures amid high diesel prices. His October 5 order concerns dyed fuel normally used off-road, including by agricultural and construction equipment.
The order provides penalty relief for road sales and use from October 5 through December 31, 2026, and allows federal tax payment deferral. It does not permanently cancel taxes. Exploring ways to eliminate deferred liabilities is a separate instruction.
RIA Novosti's initial report quoted $6.50 per gallon on September 22 and $6.27 at publication. Those figures apply to their stated dates. Trump's attribution of the fuel crisis to Ukraine is his assessment, rather than an independently established sole cause of price increases.
