A diesel train on the Lviv–Sokal route collided with an electric locomotive near Pidzamche station, with later local reports raising the number of injured to eight.
Ukrzaliznytsia said the collision happened as the passenger train was departing Pidzamche station on Oct. 8. The diesel train driver suffered a leg injury, four passengers needed medical care and the electric locomotive’s crew was not hurt.
Kyiv Independent later cited a spokesperson for the Lviv Regional Emergency Medical Care Center as saying eight people were injured. Five were hospitalized and three received treatment at the scene. Local reports said rescuers freed the assistant driver from the passenger train’s cab.
Railway specialists and emergency crews were at the site investigating the circumstances. Authorities had not announced a cause for the collision.
