Speaking to the television news programme Mattino 5, Salvini announced that he will personally bring a decree to the forthcoming cabinet meeting that contains a provision to postpone what he described as an “insane stop” on the circulation of Euro‑5 diesel cars in selected zones of the country.
He added that the same decree also includes measures he says are intended to give “oxygen” to hundreds of thousands of people, ensuring support for those citizens throughout the year 2027.
The contested rule would ban Euro‑5 diesel cars from entering certain urban or low‑emission zones, a policy the transport minister has repeatedly criticised as disproportionate and harmful to motorists.
Salvini blamed the European Union’s “pseudo‑green ideology” for the measure, arguing that Brussels needs a more balanced approach and suggesting that the current policy is causing unnecessary damage to Italian drivers.
