During the Monday press conference following the Commanders' 27‑20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Dan Quinn broke his usual practice of not naming players by specifically calling out cornerback Mike Sainristil, whose coverage breakdown allowed an Eagles touchdown pass.
Quinn said, "Mike’s a very good competitor. I’m certain that we will, but to have that type of play and just not have the right focus at the right time, completely not acceptable," adding that the team had identified several areas that needed correction.
Later in the week, Sainristil addressed reporters in the Commanders' locker room, saying he would not let the criticism bring him down. "People sometimes focus on, what did I do bad? But you don’t play a game and do all bad things. You have to focus on the good things, keep the good things good," he said.
He stressed that he does not dwell on individual plays, whether good or bad, and that his focus is on daily improvement: "For me, it’s just focusing on what can I do better, every single day, whether I played good or whether I played bad."
