The ruling TVK government has fielded the same candidates who resigned their assembly seats after being elected on an AIADMK ticket and subsequently joined the TVK, prompting Nagenthran to argue that voters are being forced into a second round of voting they did not choose.
He questioned the government's plan to build a new Secretariat, noting a proposed ₹6 crore expenditure for a new Chief Minister’s office and a much larger ₹1,200 crore budget for the Secretariat itself, and asked why such a project should proceed while basic services remain inadequate.
Nagenthran also highlighted that the CPI (M), which supports the TVK government from outside, has joined protests against the Secretariat construction, underscoring broader political opposition to the scheme.
Turning to utilities, the BJP leader alleged that the electricity department, already heavily indebted, is now buying power at higher prices and urged the state electricity minister, C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, to increase generation and address distribution shortfalls.
He called for a review of the state‑run Aavin milk procurement, pointing to a recent scarcity and a drop in the amount of milk purchased, and demanded that the reasons for the decline be identified.
Nagenthran further accused Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his ministers of neglect after a student at Anna University died of scrub typhus, blaming poor sanitation at the university for the tragedy.
Earlier in the day, Nagenthran participated in a blood‑donation camp organized by the BJP in Minnampalli to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, where certificates were handed out to donors.
