The pledge was made by Beryl Tomay, Amazon’s vice‑president of transportation, during the company’s annual Ignite Live conference for DSP owners in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to Tomay, the new funds are earmarked for helping DSP owners attract and retain drivers, a move that Amazon says has already lifted average delivery‑associate pay by 16 percent over the past three years to nearly $24 an hour.
All DSPs now provide full‑time drivers with health‑care coverage and paid time off, and many extend 401(k) plans and tuition‑reimbursement benefits, Amazon added.
On the safety front, Amazon reported more than $543 million invested in DSP‑related safety initiatives since 2022, noting a 23 percent drop in serious vehicle crashes across its network last year.
The company is installing surround‑view cameras that detect vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in 50 percent of its Rivian electric delivery vans by year‑end, and is rolling out dynamic hazard alerts and automatic route adjustments in its Delivery App to warn drivers of accidents, road closures and adverse weather.
Amazon is also leveraging AI from Netradyne’s in‑vehicle cameras to surface driving‑trend data for coachable insights, while its generative‑AI mapping tool, Wellspring, has catalogued 202 million parking spots, 2.8 million building entrances and 85 000 mailrooms and lockers since 2024.
The firm plans to expand its Smart Delivery Glasses – which use computer vision for hands‑free navigation and address verification – to more than 20 000 units by the end of 2027.
Community‑focused spending includes a $70 million commitment over the next five years to the Amazon Local Good program, which enables DSPs to deliver donated goods to nonprofits at no charge; DSPs completed 4,800 Local Good routes in 2025, moving over eight million items and four million meals, with a target of 150 million items delivered in the next five years.
In parallel, Amazon’s locker network has grown to more than 750 locations across U.S. college campuses, extending the reach of its last‑mile delivery options.
