In a tele‑conference with senior officials of the Energy Department, including representatives of the AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), Kumar warned that the ongoing downpour could damage electricity poles, lines and transformers, potentially disrupting power supply across the affected north‑Andhra region.
He urged officials to take preventive measures in advance, stressing the need to anticipate the weather’s impact and to focus especially on low‑lying and coastal areas that are most vulnerable to flooding and wind‑related damage.
Kumar instructed that restoration work be carried out on a "war‑footing," with staff, vehicles, equipment, extra poles and other materials kept ready for immediate deployment, and he mandated the formation of special response teams to address any contingency without delay.
While acknowledging that the rains are welcome for farmers and the general public, the minister highlighted the department’s responsibility to safeguard the power infrastructure, noting that unchecked damage could lead to electrocution hazards and loss of life.
The directive comes as the Bay of Bengal’s weather system intensifies, prompting authorities across Andhra Pradesh to monitor the situation closely and to prioritize rapid repairs to minimise disruption to households and businesses.
