Anand to let him watch the film’s opening with an audience at the RTC X Roads theatre, arguing that the venue holds a special place in cinema culture and that his team would follow all safety protocols.
In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy thanked Nani for his emphasis on safety but instructed the film’s producers to follow the official procedure, asking them to file an application with the designated local police station so that authorities can assess crowd‑management and public‑safety implications.
DGP C. V. Anand echoed the chief minister’s stance, noting that the proposed premiere falls on the 10th day of Ganesh idol immersions, when thousands of idols are expected to be submerged across the state, including at Hussainsagar. He warned that RTC X Roads lies close to routes leading to the lake, and police resources are already heavily deployed for immersion “bandobust.” Anand also referenced the December 2024 Sandhya Theatre incident, where a woman died and her son was critically injured during a crowd surge at a film premiere, underscoring the heightened risk in the same locality.
Chikkadpally police confirmed that no formal application from Nani’s team has been received yet and that officers are currently occupied with security arrangements for the Ganesh immersions. They said any request will be examined in light of law‑and‑order considerations and public safety.
Following the officials’ replies, Nani said his team understands the importance of public safety, especially given the immersion arrangements, and does not wish to add to the police’s burden. He added that the team will respect whatever decision the police make regarding the request.
The Ganesh immersion season in Hyderabad routinely draws massive crowds, stretching police manpower. The Sandhya Theatre tragedy earlier this year heightened scrutiny of crowd‑control measures at film events, prompting authorities to adopt a cautious approach to any additional gatherings at popular venues like RTC X Roads.
If the police ultimately grant permission, they will need to allocate additional personnel to manage both the immersion crowds and the film‑premiere audience. A denial would mean the premiere proceeds without Nani’s presence, avoiding further strain on law‑enforcement resources.
