The protest followed a meeting in which the mayor and the councillors sought the commissioner’s approval to inaugurate several completed municipal projects and raised concerns that storm‑water drains across the corporation’s 45 wards had not been properly desilted.
According to the councillors, Commissioner Kishan Kumar neither responded to their demands nor showed due respect to the mayor, instead using language they described as disrespectful toward the elected officials.
In response, Mayor Sundari Raja and the DMK councillors gathered at the corporation office, demanding disciplinary action against the commissioner. Tensions rose when protesters attempted to lay siege to the commissioner’s office, prompting police to intervene and remove the demonstrators.
Police personnel led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Iniyan engaged in talks with the protesters. After the discussions, the mayor and the councillors submitted a petition to Cuddalore Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Shukla, formally alleging the commissioner’s disrespectful remarks.
The incident highlights the friction between local elected representatives and senior administrative officers in Cuddalore, though no official action against the commissioner has been reported as of now.
