Jagathrakshakan, who serves as the DMK’s coordinator for Puducherry, told reporters that two homicide cases had been recorded in the territory over the past few days, adding that residents were increasingly worried about a spate of gang‑related fatal assaults.
The MP said the recent killings underscored a broader failure of the AINRC‑BJP government to maintain public safety, a criticism he voiced while canvassing support for DMK candidate K. Sethu Selvam in the Thattanchavady constituency.
Jagathrakshakan also highlighted what he described as chronic infrastructural neglect in Thattanchavady, a seat long held by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. He pointed to open drains and a lack of basic civic amenities as evidence that the area had not benefited from Rangasamy’s long tenure.
In addition to law‑and‑order concerns, the MP commented on the deteriorating position of the Congress party in Puducherry. He noted that images of Congress workers campaigning for their candidate under the banner of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK founder C. Joseph Vijay illustrated the party’s weakened standing.
Jagathrakshakan reminded listeners that the DMK had originally proposed Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, as the INDIA bloc’s prime‑ministerial candidate, but claimed the Congress “betrayed” the alliance and now must project Vijay as its leader in the Union Territory.
