In its order dated 23 September, the commission fixed a ₹2,000 charge per connection for LT single‑phase domestic consumers whose demand does not exceed 2 kW.
For non‑domestic LT categories, the fee is set at ₹2,500 for single‑phase connections up to 1 kW, ₹3,000 for single‑phase connections above 1 kW and up to 2 kW, and ₹5,000 for single‑phase connections above 2 kW up to 5 kW.
Three‑phase connections are priced at ₹8,000 for loads above 5 kW up to 7 kW, and ₹10,000 for loads above 7 kW up to 10 kW.
The revised rates are mandated under the Electricity Act, which allows distribution licensees to recover "reasonable expenditure" incurred in installing the lines and equipment required to supply power to applicants.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) had filed a petition in July seeking a revision of connection fees on a kVA/kW basis, prompting the commission’s review and the current order.
