M. Vijayalakshmi, a resident of Vetrilaikarar Street, had been living alone after her husband’s death and was known to receive meals either from her daughter’s home or from the nearby idli shop operated by the accused.
The victim was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence on September 15, prompting a police investigation that later confirmed she had been murdered through a post‑mortem examination.
Investigators noted that a two‑sovereign gold chain was missing from the house and that fragments of broken bangles recovered at the scene did not belong to the deceased, suggesting a struggle.
Surveillance footage showed K. Vijayalakshmi visiting the victim’s home on the day of the murder, leading police to question her. During interrogation she confessed to the killing and to stealing the gold chain.
Broken bangles belonging to the accused were found on the floor, providing further evidence of the confrontation. The stolen chain was recovered after her arrest.
K. Vijayalakshmi has been remanded in judicial custody while the case proceeds.
