The five‑piece group – vocalist Namhyun, guitarist Kihoon, bassist Sani, drummer Junyong and keyboardist Jungmo – took the stage for the festival’s first night, describing their sound as “youth‑pop rock” and showcasing tracks from their debut album EVOLVE, including the title track “Amplify”.
Hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in Germany, K‑Indie on Festival was launched in 2023 to expose German audiences to Korean music beyond mainstream K‑pop. This year’s event began at the intimate Säälchen venue before moving to the larger Holzmarkt site for its second day.
Band member Sani said the audience’s “incredible passion and energy” spurred the group to give a full‑throttle performance, a sentiment echoed by Jungmo, who called the appearance a “great opportunity” for the band to reach new listeners.
Fans responded enthusiastically, lighting the venue with phone flashlights during slower moments and turning the space into a sea of cheering and jumping concert‑goers as the tempo picked up. The highlight for many was the band’s rendition of German pop classic “99 Luftballons”, which drew an especially enthusiastic reaction and underscored the festival’s cross‑cultural aim.
The concert not only introduced Berlin’s indie‑rock scene to Catch The Young’s vocal harmonies and full‑band arrangements, it also reinforced the Korean Cultural Center’s mission to broaden the perception of Korean music in Europe.
