The autumn launch of the new series was marked by the familiar opening of the tent, with hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding welcoming viewers and the fresh judging panel.

Lawson, described by fans as a ‘domestic goddess’, brings more than two decades of culinary experience to the role, having authored a dozen cookbooks since her first title, How to Eat, was published in 1998.

Her bestselling titles – including Nigellissima, Cook Eat Repeat and At My Table – have sold hundreds of thousands of copies and spawned popular television programmes, cementing her reputation for approachable, indulgent cooking.

Channel 4’s producers said Lawson’s “signature charm and sensual approach to hosting” is the “icing on the cake” that the show needed, positioning her as the perfect replacement for Leith after her departure earlier this year.

The series, which traditionally runs through the cooler months, has been billed as the start of “baking season”, with the first episode featuring classic challenges such as the Guinness cake and Pavlova, recipes that Lawson is known for.

Industry observers note that Lawson’s addition could broaden the show’s appeal, drawing in viewers who follow her cookbooks and television work while maintaining the competitive spirit that has defined the Bake Off brand for nearly two decades.
