According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anil Kumar, the incident began when Singh opened fire on two priests, Mahendra Pathak, 60, and Akhilesh Mishra, 51, and his wife, Babita, 34, after an altercation over a ritual his mother had arranged to honor Singh’s late brother.
Following the killings, Singh barricaded himself inside the family home with three of his children, creating a hostage situation that prompted the deployment of local police and the Special Operations Group (SOG).
Police officials warned Singh to surrender, but he allegedly shot one of his children despite the warnings. In response, officers shot Singh, wounding him. Both Singh and the injured child were taken to a hospital, where they later died.
The two remaining children were rescued unharmed by the police team, and forensic investigators have begun collecting evidence at the scene. SSP Kumar confirmed that legal proceedings are underway.
Local residents said Singh was opposed to any religious ceremony and that the dispute erupted when the priests arrived at the invitation of his mother. The victims have been identified by name and age, and the community is mourning the loss.
