Speaking to reporters in Nilambur during a ten‑day constituency visit, Vadra said the allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI) were "extremely serious" and threatened the nation’s democratic fabric.
She referenced her brother, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who has repeatedly highlighted what the Congress party describes as "biases and injustice" within the ECI, and noted that senior election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi have reportedly flagged multiple irregularities, including the deletion of voter names, during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.
Vadra warned that if the Chief Election Commissioner was aware of such manipulation and permitted it, it would constitute "treachery to the nation" and an "act of treason" that must be investigated and punished.
The Congress MP called for a transparent, impartial probe, insisting that any inquiry be conducted by authorities capable of a fair investigation and that those responsible be taken to task.
ECI officials, however, have publicly stated that the poll body was unanimous in its decisions regarding the pan‑India SIR exercise, suggesting internal consensus on the voter‑list revisions.
The controversy comes amid broader political debate over alleged voter‑list deletions in states such as Maharashtra and Haryana, issues the Congress party has long alleged are part of a systematic effort to manipulate electoral outcomes.
