The event, organized by the Shivamogga district administration and the AYUSH Department, brought together local officials, practitioners and the public to commemorate National Ayurveda Day on Wednesday.
Lok Sabha member B.Y. Raghavendra, who participated in the programme, described Ayurveda as India’s most ancient and traditional system of medicine, saying it helps people lead long, balanced lives and serves as an effective remedy for today’s stress‑filled lifestyle.
Raghavendra highlighted that the Union government has launched the National AYUSH Mission to raise awareness of Ayurveda, noting that more than 200 government Ayurvedic colleges have been set up across the country under the scheme.
He added that the mission places greater emphasis on research and is encouraging farmers to grow medicinal herbs, aiming to strengthen the supply chain for Ayurvedic treatments.
State MLA S.N. Channabasappa stressed that Ayurveda forms part of the region’s ancient heritage, calling it a divine remedy rather than merely medicine and asserting that it teaches a better way of life.
