The incident occurred on the evening of 22 September, between 7:20 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., at the first‑floor premises of a household‑goods shop in JP Nagar’s 7th Phase. The victim, identified as 60‑year‑old Raju Singh, was alone in the shop when his 41‑year‑old distant relative, Hari Singh, allegedly entered, argued and assaulted him, leaving him critically injured.
Raju Singh had lived in Bengaluru for nearly three decades and operated the shop at Ganga Industries. Hari Singh, who had been working with Raju since 2006, had been pressing the shopkeeper to help him start a separate outlet. Raju reportedly asked for a year to arrange the required investment, a request that sparked a three‑day quarrel between the two men.
Following the assault, Hari Singh is said to have informed Raju’s daughter of the incident before fleeing the scene. The victim was discovered in a pool of blood with severe head and facial injuries. A complaint lodged by the daughter led the Puttenahalli police to register a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder.
The police investigation remains ongoing. No arrests have been reported, and authorities have not disclosed further details about potential motives beyond the commercial dispute. The case underscores the volatility that can arise from family‑related business disagreements in the city.
