The raid was carried out in Sokkampatti village, which falls under the Manapparai forest‑range limits in Tiruchi district, after authorities received credible information about illegal possession and sale of spotted‑deer skins and sandalwood.
During the operation, a 60‑year‑old man from Kollam in Kerala, identified as a suspected seller and trader, was taken into custody. Subsequent investigation based on information gathered at the scene led to the apprehension of another individual suspected of supplying sandalwood.
Four persons have so far been linked to the case. Two are currently in custody, one alleged supplier remains at large and is being pursued, and a fourth individual identified during the probe is hospitalized.
Investigators traced the confiscated sandalwood to a patta‑land parcel in the Manapparai area, which was inspected and verified by the enforcement team. The probe continues to map the full chain of procurement, hunting, supply and sale of the wildlife articles and sandalwood, and to identify any additional participants.
Forest Department officials said legal proceedings, including remand formalities, are being initiated against those in custody, while efforts to locate the absconding accused are ongoing.
