Congress member S. Ravi, who also heads the Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank, made the appeal during a Legislative Council debate. He asked lawmakers and the media not to turn a possible increase into a political dispute. Members of the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) voiced support for revising procurement prices to help farmers meet higher feed and operating costs.
The proposal comes alongside a separate request from Congress legislator K.Y. Nanje Gowda, chairman of the Kolar-Chickballapur Milk Union. During an Assembly debate on drought on Wednesday, he called for a ₹10-per-litre increase, saying drought-hit producers were facing sharply higher production costs.
The two interventions put different figures before the government: ₹14–₹15 a litre from Ravi and ₹10 from Gowda. Both argue that the current gap between the cost of producing milk and the amount paid to farmers is weakening rural livelihoods and could damage the state’s cooperative dairy network.
